Arthur Larcombe and Chardstock

This is just a brief update about Arthur Larcombe. We had a couple of weeks away touring round Devon and Cornwall and on the way back we stopped off at Chardstock in Devon, where Arthurs family came from. What a wonderful village it looks

The pub looked very inviting, The George Inn dates to the 1600’s

Opposite this pub just along the road a short distance we came across a Village War Memorial, for WW1 and WW2 Locals, and I was amazed to find Arthur Larcombe listed on it, it hadn’t even occured to me that the village would have a Memorial, let alone with his name listed, I was thrilled with this find and took a few pictures, have sent copies to his daughter, she has never been to the village.

A.Larcombe listed on the right Five up from the bottom.

Since we have been back home it didn’t take much research to discover
Chardstock Historical Record Group Web Museum
They have an incredible amount of history about Chardstock and a huge help to me is the ‘Memorial Inscriptions’ section on their website, listing quite a few ‘Larcombe’s’ I can match them up with ones that I have on the Family Tree.
The people that give their time and effort to these projects are wonderful aren’t they? and certainly don’t get enough credit for the work they do..and all free to access.
In your family history research its certainly worth remembering to check for Villages with these resources, especially if you are unable to travel to the village or Church you are interested in.

I also came across another Chardstock Village site
This has lots of info about the village and more pictures, so if you are passing that way in Devon, pop in for a visit.
Till next time then………………………………………………
