Just a very quick Blog in the hope that someone may recognise an Ancestor among these few old Photos that I put on Twitter and my Facebook Page over this last Bank holiday weekend. One of my lovely followers, Pam has solved these Bank Holiday Puzzles.

This is the first photo above, obviously taken after a Christening/Baptism (there were two identical photos I bought together) but were sent to different people, likely family.

This is what Pam found out: “Possibles. Samuel Isted married Katie Miles 1920, Sussex. Son Samuel G W b 1st Jan 1921, died 1991. Katie Miles b 1900, Greenwich. 1901 census she has sister Blossom. Blossom married George Isted, 1912. Bill may be George W b 1913. Haven’t found Queenie!

Katie has a younger sister Elizabeth listed in 1911 when the family had moved to Sussex. Perhaps she may have been called Queenie.

Yes, there appear to be 22 public trees featuring Samuel George W Isted on Ancestry.

A little more on Blossom. George Isted d 1916. Blossom married William Press in Jan 1921 in Canada. He died in 1928 and Blossom returned to Sussex. Found a fuzzy picture of her & Katie in various trees. Your photo would have gone to Canada.

So I mentioned to Pam that I had put a photo puzzle on my Facebook Page and had this reply “Challenge accepted. I think I’ve cracked it!” See below……

This is one of the old photos I put on my Facebook Page, both were a gift to me from a friend. But this one has information!

As you can see it was sent to an address in Reading, Berkshire, my hometown.

Pam wrote: “What lovely pictures. Firstly the stamp – King Edward who died in 1910. Also postage halfpenny for a postcard up to 1918. Narrows the time down as Edward only reigned for nine years. The tone of the letter suggests an older brother or uncle, rather than a suitor/love interest. I found a Vincent Southwell born 1883 Todmorden, Yorks. Parents Charles and Elizabeth Ann. In 1901 he is a chemist’s assistant and by 1911 a qualified chemist/doctor. He has a sister Evina, b 1885, who is a pupil teacher. In 1910 Evina marries in Manchester. Both she and her husband, John Hilyer, are School Teachers. In 1911 they are still in Lancashire with no children. The 1939 register has them living in Cheshire with their 20 year old daughter Mildred. Evina dies 5th Feb 1963. Vincent, meanwhile, remains in Todmorden. In 1911 he is with his wife Marion and daughter Dorothy aged 1yr. In 1939 it is just him and his wife. He dies in 1944“
