We’re back from the Isle of Wight where we had a really lovely two weeks and mostly sunny weather! We visited lots of different places on the Island so I shall share some photos over the next few weeks of the Churches on my @ChurchWaffles Facebook page and other places we visited on @LynnsWaffles on Twitter and my Instagram account @lynnsgardenwaffles. Of course, I had to try and find a few old photos to fetch back with me, so one day we visited a couple of antique shops, first was ‘Rattlemouse Antiques’ at Staplehurst Grange, Newport, Newport PO30 2LU. What a smashing shop packed full of a lovely selection of all sorts of Antiques but unfortunately for me no Old Photos!
Then we paid a visit to the Antique and Vintage Emporium at Dores Hill Farm nr Wooton Bridge, Ryde.

Because there are lots of different sellers I was lucky enough to find one with Photos and Ephemera, I was really good and just bought a few photos to fetch home.
This is the first one, and has writing on paper with it “Believed to be Frederick Rigg Edwardson” It has been cut around, obviously to fit a frame at some time but thankfully enough is left on the back to identify that the photographer was from Liverpool.

Good to research someone again after not doing any at all for two and a half weeks, as I just had my phone and the signal where we were was awful! So I’m feeling a bit rusty.
I easily found Frederick, then his marriage to Isabella and it was nice to see that they had 4 children, who all married so hopefully there may be some descendants out there somewhere.
A small family tree here, a direct link to Ancestry: Frederick Rigg Edwardson Tree
When Frederick was just a young man in 1881 he was Deputy Registrar for St George’s District in Liverpool, Lancashire. In the 1881 census, he was also Manager for a Tin Co.
In the previous census of 1871, he was Assistant Clerk for the Justice of the Peace for the Borough ( I think…it’s not very clear) 1891 he was married with two daughters and one on the way and his occupation was a Bookseller Manager (Limited Company) 1901 Frederick and Isabella now have two more children, another daughter and a son. They had also moved to Moreton Cum Lingham, Cheshire. He is now an Accountant. Sadly by the time of the 1911 census though Frederick had died aged just 60 in the September quarter of 1910. Isabella in 1911 is living at 11 Victoria Drive with three of her children still at home.
Isabella died in Chorley, Lancashire at the age of 68.
The children all married and I was really pleased to see that the couple’s only son, Frederick Charles Henry Edwardson, after he had married Doris Muriel Grave, they had a daughter Gillian Patricia Edwardson 11 Mar 1926, she had also married and when she died in Nov 1996, her death was registered on the Isle of Wight. Could she have owned this old photo?
If you are a descendant of Frederick’s or you have any photos to match the Edwardson family I would love to see them. You can comment here or send me an email to lynnswaffles@gmail.com.
Till next time then…..
