💒The Berry Family of Atworth, Wiltshire❤️

About a week ago I shared these two lovely old wedding photos on social media, they were sent to me by my friend, Diana back in the summer.

Another friend, Mandy offered to share with a local Wiltshire Facebook group to see if we could identify the Church. Luckily it was recognised as being St Micheal and All Angel’s Church, Atworth, Wiltshire.

Mandy knew a lady who lived near the Church and contacted her to ask if she might recognise any of the people.

This lovely lady then contacted her Mum and she recognised the father of the Bride as being William Reginald Berry. As you’ll see below on the 1939 Register, William worked as a Farm Carter. The farm he worked on was this lady’s Mum’s family farm!

The lovely lady who lives near the Church then kindly went and took a photo for me of William and his wife’s gravestone in the Church.

The Bride is one of their daughters, likely Glenys, she thinks, the couple had four daughters. Glenys Sylvia Berry married Anthony Colin Bright on 19 December 1959 at the same Church as her sister Elaine, in Atworth, Wiltshire. It was used for many family occasions.

So armed with this information I started a small family tree for William and his wife and daughters.

When I had added the basics for everyone I looked at the hints of other people who had the couple on their trees.

The first one to come up was the Berry and Dent family by Lynns Waffles ha ha I hadn’t realised as I research so many different families and it’s impossible to remember all the surnames. I had written a Blog about a Wedding photo album featuring Elaine Berry marrying William Henry Dent back in August this year.

Here’s the link to that Blog I wrote in August: William Henry Dent💕Elaine Berry

Elaine is one of the four daughters.

Here’s proud father William Reginald Berry with his daughter Elaine below, a photo from the wedding album on the August Blog. As you can see it’s unmistakably the same man.

This Wedding Album was also a gift from Diana but the two lots of separate Wedding photos didn’t have any writing on so I didn’t connect them or recognise the father of both brides being the same man, William Reginald Berry. If only someone had written on the backs!

Such an amazing revelation and I’m so very grateful to Mandy and especially the lovely lady who lives by the Church and her Mum for identifying this wedding couple’s family.

Here’s the direct link to the family tree that I have on Ancestry for the Berry and Dent family and below is a family group sheet for them: Berry and Dent Family

As you can see the couple also had a son, Cecil, sadly he died aged just 17 months: Cause of death. Convulsions and Broncho Pneumonia. Age 17 months. Father William Reginald Berry was a Farm labourer.

Wouldn’t it be just wonderful if we could find someone out there who knows of a family member who would love to have these photos back in the family where they belong?

There are these other two pictures (below) taken in more recent times that also look like they belong to the same family. Is William Reginald Berry far right but older with his wife? I’m sure it is. Are they the Grandparents?

I shall keep them all together now until we find their family. Again huge thanks to everyone who has helped with identifying this family, I am very grateful.

As always if you have any other information or know of any descendants of this family, please contact me either by commenting below or sending me an email to lynnswaffles@gmail.com

Till next time then……..
