I’ve put this lovely faded face on my social media this morning as a Friday Puzzle🧩Twitter and my Facebook page followers came up trumps as always.
On Twitter Pan, a follower @passionflower99 shared with me an Ancestry Public tree with Minnie in, her father being John Rickett and mother Anna Cooper. Looks like Minnie had 8 siblings. Here’s the 1901 census from Ancestry with her on in Surrey.
Also on this public tree was a lovely old photo of Minnie’s parents John and Anna. I shall contact the owner of the tree and send them a link to this Blog.
My lovely follower Gina excelled too on my Facebook page with more records, all from Find My Past.
‘Minnie Beatrice Rickett. Birth registered 1886 Kanagawa, Japan.
‘Looks like there were 3 sisters. Alice Mary Rickett 3rd daughter of John Rickett married David Thompson Brown of Killinure, Armagh in 1904‘
‘The family were in England in 1911 living 73 Alexandra Road, Lambeth. Father John Rickett was b 1835 in Calcutta and is a retired agent for P&O, Mother Annie was b 1849, London. Minnie her sister Mabel b 1882, Japan and her husband Cyril Gunn b1882, a stock jobber. They also had a housemaid and a cook‘.
Wedding: EVANS-RICKETT Dec 11 (1916) at Penang, by the colonial chaplain, Lennard Melville Evans of Penang and Llandulas to Minnie Beatrice, youngest daughter of John Rickett of “Oethen” Gypsy Hill, late of Yokohama, Japan. Reported in the Liverpool Echo 19 Dec 1916‘.
From the London and China Telegraph on Monday 22 January 1917: ‘The wedding (1916) took place at St George’s church. Lennard was manager of Huttenbach’s Electrical department. Minnie had a brother Mr F B Rickett of the Hong Kong Bank‘.
More from Gina’s research: “Lennard/Leonard pre-deceased Minnie. He passed away at the General Hospital in Penang on the 26th March 1937″.
“I was wondering how she fared in WWII? Looks like she had returned to England by 1939 and was living in Steyning, Sussex. According to probate Minnie passed away on the 20th Dec 1976 at Radcot, Queen Street, Gomshall. Her estate was valued at a whopping £103,502″.
“Lovely report on her brother’s, George Lathrop Weir Rickett’s wedding to Elsie Butler Spain “an accomplished amateur vocalist” Was a grand affair the couple receiving over 200 presents and wedding apparel from Knightsbridge”. Huge thanks Gina!
As always if you are a descendant of this family please get in touch as a comment on here or via email to lynnswaffles@gmail.com
If any more information pops up from followers over the next couple days I shall add to this Blog.
